Our Mission

We believe the key to building a great future for the world lies in how we educate the next generation of humans. And this generation is already here: with 1.7 billion people between ages 10 and 24 today, the world has the largest young generation in the history of mankind. A generation met with huge challenges (political, environmental) but also great opportunity through breakthroughs in science and technology. How can this generation raise the bar of human knowledge–exploring new territories and ideas while maintaining the teachings of previous generations?
With this challenge comes an unprecedented need for educational infrastructure and content. A need that should be powered by new tools that make learning more efficient, more scalable, more exciting: better.
Glose focuses on improving the most basic but powerful experience in learning : reading. Whether it’s for school, work, or pure entertainment and pleasure, reading has a deep positive impact on our brains and souls. The more we read, the smarter and more inspired we become.
So we believe that by making reading better on screens, with design, technology and science we can help power a new age of human knowledge and inspiration. We value courage because it creates a growth mindset that helps our team learn individually and collectively. We try to create an environment that fosters bold moves and sometimes requires to take hard paths. We are not afraid to test new things, go into new directions, without a clear playbook or a guarantee for success. We are not afraid to experiment, undertake very ambitious technical or design challenges, and sometimes fail. We are growing fast, with more than we can chew sometimes, and no rules for success than hard work, reliance, and grit.

Spread knowledge, spark conversations, and generate ideas. It’s big, it’s bold, and we like it that way. Our ambition is not fueled by ego, but by urgency, and a clear conscience of the fact that most problems of tomorrow will be solved by education today. And reading is a big part of that. So we look for ambitious people who believe they can actually have an impact on the world by joining us.

We stay humble not in spite of our ambition but because of it. We know we are far from our goal, and we know we won’t get there alone, but by gathering great talent and generating love from our users. Also, Glose is about building tools that spread the works of great minds (writers, thinkers, doers), so we are at the service of hundreds of years of human genius –next to whom we often feel quite small! Generally speaking, we believe humility is natural in the face of any ambitious endeavour and should be core to any team work. We leave our ego at the door in the morning, and bring coffee instead.

We care deeply about what we do. We want people with a high level of generosity of spirit and attention whether it’s in building a product, working as a team, or serving users. We work with teachers, students, school staff, authors : people who dedicate their lives to teaching, sharing, and spreading the written word. It’s easy to be inspired working for them. Solving problems with technology

Our tech stack

At heart, Glose is a technology company. We are building a large scale and complex platform addressing millions in 200 countries. We manage millions of files, data, and users. We apply cutting edge science and technology to improve all dimensions of reading : whether it’s through building an interactive interface, personalizing reading with data, using natural language processing to create new ways to discover text, or building API connections to make Glose the reading layer of the internet. We keep up to date with the technology behind every parts of our infrastructure, and we strive to use the best tool for each job. Right now our stack includes React, Redux, Kotlin, Swift, Python 3.6, aiohttp, MongoDB.
If you apply for a position in our team, you will undergo a 4 stage interview process:
•   Resume and motivation screening: this is to know who you are and what you have achieved.
•   Technical challenge at home: and then to build a small product. This is to show us how you you build things.
•   Scientific challenge in our office: you will be asked to solve more abstract problems live with our team. This is to see how you think. And also to debrief on what you build.
•   Personal meeting: this is to understand who you are and what you want –and to explain more of our culture. This is more personal. We don’t recruit to fill fixed positions. We recruit to add extraordinary individuals to our team. Individuals who want to expand, improve, take responsibility in building great things.
